Writing role descriptions

Write each role description as three bullet points starting with ‘I am responsible for…’ Add one ‘power’ statement: ‘I can reassign tickets’ or ‘I can ask for a redo.’ Post descriptions on the wall where every student can see them.

Why it matters: Clear descriptions reduce ‘What do I do?’ questions by 80 percent. The power statement gives students agency without chaos. A high school teacher posted role cards on lanyards; students referenced them constantly during the first week.

Example: Project Manager description: ‘I am responsible for moving tickets from To Do to Doing. I am responsible for checking that each ticket has a name and due time. I am responsible for calling standup meetings. My power: I can return incomplete tickets to the worker.’
